Ember Independent was founded on a simple idea: winter guard should be a place where people can find joy and a love for performing.

Ember Independent was founded by Isabel Leggitt to bring a new kind of independent winter guard experience to the St. Louis area. She envisioned a group where the joy of performing was central to the experience and where members could work hard while still having fun along the way. Isabel brought Mac Groh, SB Pye, and Eva Voss onto the staff, and together they turned that vision into the culture that defines Ember today.

Known for being a little quirky and relentlessly supportive, Ember became a community that cares deeply for our members and community. That spirit of kindness and connection helped many of our performers rekindle what made them love winter guard in the first place.

From the beginning, Ember showed that creating a joyful environment didn't mean sacrificing competitive success. In our first competitive season, we earned a spot in finals at the WGI Kansas City Regional. We work hard and take pride in what we put on the floor, but we don't believe that requires taking ourselves too seriously. At Ember, we believe people perform their best when they are excited to walk into rehearsal. We want our members to feel valued and excited about what we're creating together. Above all, we want them to leave Ember loving this activity even more than when they arrived.

We want to keep the spark alive.
